Today No Circulates: Restrictions for Drivers

The Hoy no Circula program establishes restrictions for vehicle circulation in Mexico City and in some municipalities of the State of Mexico. On this occasion, vehicles with pink stickers and license plates ending in 7 or 8 will not be allowed to circulate on Tuesday, January 28, from 05:00 to 22:00, unless certain exceptions apply, such as medical emergencies or having circulation holograms 0 and 00.

In case of non-compliance with this restriction, drivers will face fines that could amount to thousands of pesos and the possibility of their vehicle being sent to the vehicle depot. The fee for towing the car to the pound ranges from 919 to 1,833 pesos, depending on the towing capacity of the unit. Meanwhile, fines imposed by traffic police range from 2,714 to 3,257 pesos, depending on the severity of the offense.

The Hoy no Circula program affects all boroughs of Mexico City, as well as certain municipalities in the State of Mexico. For vehicles with circulation holograms 1, restrictions are established for circulation on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, depending on whether the license plate number is even or odd.

On the other hand, there are certain types of vehicles that are exempt from these restrictions, such as agricultural tractors, motorcycles, vehicles with sustainable technologies, and those used for school or funeral services. It is important to be aware of these provisions to avoid inconveniences and fines when driving in the city.
